The Demon of Loudane

Ken Russell Russell, based on John Whiting's 1961 RSC play, which was originally a study of Aldous Huxley's 1952 case of the Lou Dane injustice. The main content of the film takes place in France in the 17th century. Father Urbain Grandier, who has strong personal liberalism, contradicted the authority of the Catholic Cardinal Duke Richelieu, which led to the Duke and the church beginning to conspire to use the excuse of a nun being possessed by a "demon" to frame the priest, which ultimately led to tragedy. Although this film has many daring and shocking aspects, it does not prevent it from becoming a unique and landmark film in British cinema. Oliver Reed as Father Grundy and Vanessa Redgrave as the Abbess both give outstanding performances, and the sets designed by Derek Jarman are even more memorable.
