Narcotics officer Newlyweds Miguel Mike Vargas (Charlton Heston) and his wife Susie (Janet Leigh) came to the border of the United States and Mexico. A car explosion occurred on the road. Vargas believed that the case was related to drug dealers, so he launched an investigation with the local police. Hank Quinlan (Orson Welles) is the police captain and is well-known in the local area. The local police focused their suspicion on a man named Sanchez, but Vargas found evidence in Sanchez's home that he was not a prisoner. Quinlan, however, insists that Sanchez is the culprit. Vargas studied previous cases handled by Quinlan and had many questions about this famous police captain. Vargas' wife Susie was kidnapped and framed by a gang of people in the hotel.
