Hot Snow

Based on the novel of the same name by Soviet writer Yuri Bondarev. In novels and movies, the strategic planning of the Soviet army headquarters and the close combat of anti-tank artillery at the company and platoon levels are interspersed side by side, which is the embodiment of "panoramic writing" in Soviet war literature in the late 1960s. Both the novel and the film focus on the cost of the war: several anti-tank artillery batteries had to be sacrificed to prevent Manstein's tank group from breaking through towards Stalingrad. When the film opens, the officers and soldiers of the anti-tank artillery company are resting at the station and are about to mobilize to the front line. They do not know that their fate has been determined on the chessboard of the headquarters...
