故事发生在20世纪初，出生于福井秋山家的次男笃藏（佐藤健 饰）并不像哥哥（铃木亮平 饰）那样成为令人羡慕的律师，他鬼点子多多，却干什么都没有长性，令父亲周藏（杉本哲太 饰）。好不容易给他说了一个上门女婿的亲事，起初还任劳任怨并且和妻子俊子（黑木华 饰）情投意合的笃藏，终于不满平凡无聊的生活，转而跟随军队的田边军曹（伊藤英明 饰）学起了料理，更不惜和岳父决裂跑到东京学习料理。在此期间，宇佐美（小林薰 饰）、五百木（加藤雅也 饰）等人的出现推动着笃藏命运的改变。他专心修炼料理技术，朝着光辉的未来前进…… 本片根据杉森久英依据宫内省大膳职料理长秋山德藏的故事撰写的小说改编
