陈天生办案能力越来越高，在上海滩名声几乎要盖过父亲陈亨利，不由得有点飘飘然。没想到马上栽了跟斗。一次国画展上，陈天生意外结识了漂亮聪明的女记者晓蕙，与此同时，一伙盗贼暗暗实施着盗画行动。天生通过观察，认出了扮成巡捕的窃贼并将其抓捕。关键时刻，晓蕙也发现了化装成安保人员准备偷画的窃贼。就在他们为抓住偷画贼庆幸时，美术馆长发现馆内一副价值连城的王维失传名作《卧雪图》不翼而飞。通过对偷画贼的审问，发现偷《卧雪图》的另有其人。陈亨利拜访《卧雪图》的主人梁仕友。但是亨利发现梁仕友在提到画的来源时闪烁其词，似有隐瞒。而天生则发现梁仕友的儿子梁旭是个纨绔子弟，经常混迹赌场，并且在书画即将展出前几天行为怪异，不禁让人心生怀疑。通过一个赝品画师的线索，天生发现梁旭确有盗画企图。可是亨利却认为案子并没有这么简单。果然，种种证据表明盗画者并非梁旭。天生再回到对三个偷画贼的...
