上海租界接连发生蹊跷命案，雷击致人死亡案还没查出个头绪，一名神秘男子在惨遭暗杀、用血指写下两横后暴毙于巡捕房。案情蹊跷、舆论压力随之而来，陈探长受命侦察。和陈探长同时对案情表现出兴趣的，还有陈探长的儿子陈天生。天生留学德国，回国后在巡捕房做了翻译员。 在对雷击案死者的勘察中，天生从死者身上烧残的一块衣角、和从口袋里掏出的残缺照片上看出点名堂。拿着残缺的照片，探长父子求证于考古学罗教授，从罗教授那里得知照片背景石碑上的文字是蒙古语“受命于天、既寿永昌”的意思。受这句咒语护佑的陵墓，一般下葬的是蒙古大汗。 从罗教授家回来，两起蹊跷命案与秦始皇()的传国玉玺有关的推断，在陈家父子的心里打定。如此一来，两个遇害者系照片上五名盗墓者中的两个，也在陈家父子的心里达成共识。再次拜访罗教授，陈探长挖掘出一个叫“王胡子”的盗墓者外，细心的天生好像还有别的收获。 满租界...
