Fremont

The life of the young and beautiful Afghan girl Doniya is not easy. She once served as a translator for the US military and now she suffers from insomnia. She lives alone in an apartment building in Fremont, surrounded by mostly Afghan immigrants like herself. She often goes to a sluggish restaurant alone and watches soap operas while eating. Donya works in a fortune cookie factory in the city. One day, her boss gave her a promotion and asked her to write fortune cookies on fortune cookies, and her life changed accordingly. As more and more strangers in the Bay Area read her signature, Donya had an increasingly irresistible thought: to send a special message to the world - although she was not sure where this message would go.
