Later, enemy agents caused a car accident in retaliation for Gan Zuchang, causing him serious head injuries. In 1955, Gan Zuchang was awarded the rank of major general, and Li Baoshan, who joined the army at the same time as his villager, was awarded the rank of school. Li was very jealous of Gan and was dismissed and returned to his hometown after violating discipline. Gan Zuchang suffered from severe sequelae of concussion and felt that he was no longer suitable to serve in the army. After returning home, he saw that although his hometown was liberated, life was still poor. He resigned, returned to his hometown, Yanbei Village, Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province. After returning to his hometown, he worked tirelessly and continued to contribute to the economic construction of his hometown. He overcame all difficulties, repaired paddy and dry fields, built reservoirs, established a commune agricultural science institute, etc., which greatly improved farmers' lives. Gan Zuchang's spirit of not loving high position but choosing dedication, not seeking enjoyment but being willing to struggle has become a model for leading cadres and a pioneer of the times.
