Based on Nella Larson’s famous 1929 novel of the same name, White Pass follows two black women, Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Claire Kendry (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga), who, during the height of New York’s Harlem Renaissance in the late 1920s, are both able to pass for white but choose to live in two worlds separated by the color of their skin. One summer afternoon, two childhood friends reunite by chance, and Irene reluctantly lets Claire pay her a visit. As a result, Claire ingratiates herself with Irene's husband (Andre Holland) and his family, and later breaks into her well-connected social circle. As their lives become more closely intertwined, Erin finds that her once stable life begins to be turned upside down by Claire's appearance. White Pass is a riveting film that examines the obsessions and repressions of human nature. What lies can people tell themselves and others to protect their carefully constructed reality?
