Trouble in Paradise

Mariette (Kay Francis) is a wealthy and beautiful widow with a frivolous style who runs a company. By chance, she met a man named Rival (Herbert Marshall). Rival was handsome, charming and suave, and Mariette was quickly conquered by his charm and hired him as her personal secretary, which was exactly what Rival had dreamed of. It turns out that Rival is a pseudonym, and the true identity of this handsome man is an international thief. He and his former lover Lily (Miriam Hopkins) teamed up to attempt to take Mariette's property as their own. The company chairman Adolf (C. Aubrey Smith) discovered Rival's conspiracy and told Mariette, but Mariette did not believe his advice, and Rival's conspiracy was about to succeed.
