Cinema Paradiso

In a small town in southern Italy, the eccentric little boy Toto (played by Savatelli Casio) likes to watch movies, and even more likes to watch the projectionist Alfredo (played by Philippe Noire) showing movies. He and Alfredo have become friends forever, and they have found the joy of childhood life in film. In order to let more audiences see the movie, the kind-hearted Alfredo held an open-air movie. As a result, the film caught fire. Toto rescued Alfredo from the fire, but Alfredo was blind. Toto became the only person in the town who could show movies, and he succeeded Alfredo as the town's film projectionist. As Toto (played by Mark Leonardi) grows up, he falls in love with the banker's daughter Elena (played by Agnes Nano). The pure feeling of first love is as beautiful as heaven, but the vows of a young couple are cut off by Elena's father's obstruction. Toto goes to do military service, while Elena goes to college. Encouraged by Alfredo, the sad Toto left the town and pursued his dream in life... Thirty years later, Alfredo passed away. At this time, Toto was already a successful director. He returned to his hometown and saw the dilapidated Cinema Paradiso, recalling the past and sighing.
