The Apprentice

In the summer of 1939, a thirteen-year-old boy went to an isolated island alone to serve as the assistant of the lighthouse owner. The picturesque island is actually a prison with no escape. A manipulative and strict father raised a well-behaved son who obeyed orders. Due to the intrusion of a strange boy, the originally closed family began to lose balance. The lighthouse owner who strictly controlled everything forced the boy to resist. The director uses a unique female perspective to depict the power relationship between father and son, siblings, master and apprentice, and composes the emotional tension of loyalty, betrayal, and jealousy. Excessive expectations for the next generation will bring irreparable physical and mental trauma to the children.
