Early Spring 1956

In a busy modern city, men and women are struggling to make ends meet, but often leave their inner emotions with nowhere to settle. Sugiyama Shoji (played by Ryo Ikebe), an ordinary employee who works in a refractory material manufacturing company in Tokyo, is one of this group of people. He eagerly awaits the opportunity for promotion and has been struggling for years. The relationship between Shoji and his wife Masako (played by Chikage Awashima) has become cold and delicate after many years of marriage and the death of their child. The boring and dull life suddenly changes. Chiyo Kaneko (played by Keiko Kishi), a female company employee known as the "goldfish", breaks into Shoji's sight, giving this man a chance to cheat. The marriage, which was already on the verge of collapse, began to fall apart. Masako was sad and desperate, and Shoji was suddenly transferred to a remote branch. The relationship between Sugiyama and his wife has been severely tested...
