Small Street [Film and TV Commentary]

Xia (played by Guo Kaimin), a man who is almost blind, comes to Director Zhong (played by Yang Yanjin) ) visited his home and told him about his unfinished script: Ten years ago, Xia was a proud car mechanic. In that turbulent era, Xia captured the incredible changes around him with curious eyes. One day, Xia accidentally bumped into a young man named Yu (played by Zhang Yu). The simple-minded Xia Zi felt that he was very close to Yu. From then on, he and Yu went to the mountains to collect herbs for his mother who was suffering from cancer. However, Xia soon discovered that Yu was actually a girl. During the ten years of turmoil, Yu was besieged and tortured by the rebels because of her teacher mother. One of her hair was shaved off, and she had to hide her gender and live in fear. In order to help Yu, Xia stole a wig from the troupe, and was seriously injured and blinded. After Xia was discharged from the hospital, he discovered that Yu's family had disappeared. The script stopped here, so Director Zhong and Xia worked together to hypothesize various possibilities after the story...
