Before the Revolution

"Before the Revolution", which was filmed in his hometown of Perma, is Bertolucci's first work that adds political consciousness to the discussion of human nature. The film describes how a middle-class intellectual youth hesitates between ideals and reality. He wanted to talk about revolution and love with people, but when he fell in love with his aunt, he felt guilty, painful and uneasy about this relationship. In the end, he couldn't fight the reality and married a girl he didn't really like. Although the film is not Bertolucci's personal autobiography, he fully reflects the atmosphere of the 1960s in the film. He is absolutely full of energy in the film as he is young and energetic.
