Whale Rider

Pei (played by Keisha Castle-Hughes) is the granddaughter of the chief of an ancient tribe on the coast of New Zealand. The mother once gave birth to twins, but unfortunately she and the baby boy died. The frustrated father walked away, leaving the orphan girl Pei to be raised by her grandparents. Grandma loves Pei very much, but Chief Koro (Rawiri Paratene) once thought her granddaughter was an ominous person. What is causing Koro even more headache now is the issue of heir. This tribe has a strict creed: the heir must be male. Seeing that his son could not inherit the family business, Kou Luo was extremely distressed.
