Mikio Naruse is a work that reflects rural family ethics. Yae (played by Chikage Awashima), who has been widowed in the countryside for many years, and her elder brother at home, are busy with the work and marriage affairs of the next generation of children. However, young people each have their own ideas. They yearn for modern life rather than continue to guard the land of their ancestors. They also have reservations about the marriages arranged by their parents, which makes the elders mentally and physically exhausted. Yae and a married reporter took good care of their nephews and properly handled the conflicts between the two generations. In the process, the two gradually fell in love, and each other vaguely cherished this love affair that went beyond friendship. In the end, Yae calmly restrained his feelings after the other party chose to escape, while his brother, although he did not agree with the choice of his younger generation, was helpless. After selling the land he had cultivated for many years, he could only sigh in vain at the ruthless changes of the times.
