We Were Soldiers

This film is adapted from real battles in the Vietnam War. In November 1965, the Vietnam War escalated to the stage where the US military directly participated in the war. The number of U.S. troops stationed in Vietnam continues to rise. Lieutenant Colonel Moore (played by Mel Gibson) was ordered to train a group of new recruits into real soldiers. Many family members of the army also entered the army. The soldiers played the dual roles of husbands and soldiers, and the warm atmosphere was mixed with a little uneasiness. In order to relieve the monotony of military life, the army held large parties. When the time came for the expedition, Moore solemnly promised to "bring back every soldier" at the ceremony. Moore and his troops were airborne in the river valley near Cambodia, where the North Vietnamese Army's heavy troops were located. The numerically weak U.S. Army was surrounded and suffered heavy casualties. Finally, with the assistance of artillery and helicopters, the battle began to stalemate. The next day, the battle advanced to the hills but was still unable to break through the siege. Moore sought help from the air force. Due to the close distance between the two sides, US gasoline bombs injured some ground troops. Photographer Joe (Barry Pepper) recorded brutal scenes during the battle. On the third day, the US military was preparing for a decisive close battle. At this time, air force support was in place and the Vietnamese army was completely wiped out.
