On an ordinary day, little boys named Zachary and Ethan had an argument in a park, and the former broke the latter's mouth with a stick. This minor child dispute brought together two couples who had no connection at all. Mike Longstreet (John C Reilly), who runs a haberdashery store, and Penelope (Jodie Foster), a writer, are Ethan's parents. They welcome Zachary's parents - lawyer Alan Cowin (Christoph Waltz) and investment broker Nancy (Kate Winslet) - at home. They negotiated, discussed, argued, cynicized, and made insinuations about the child's injury, sometimes forcing themselves to be happy, sometimes showing displeasure, but they had to face this difficult and painful day face to face... The film won the 2011 Boston Film Critics Award for Best Ensemble and the 2011 Venice Film Festival Little Golden Lion Award.
