故事发生在20世纪40年代初，国共两党的蜜月期结束，双方围绕抗日这一议题渐渐撕破颜面。作为国民党王牌特工的特别行动队队长叶尚武（傅程鹏 饰），他和身为共产党的弟弟尚文分处两个阵营。由于感念手足情深，尚武不惜抛却在国民党中的身份，隐姓埋名潜入监狱救出弟弟，却目睹了人世间最 为撕心裂肺的一幕，而这次遭遇也让他的身心遭受巨变。在此之后，尚武化名贺韬重现人间，他杀死残杀弟弟的凶手，进而踏上了疯狂的复仇之旅。在此期间，他的命运与晚报记者庄惠（侯梦莎 饰）联系在了一起。庄惠同样不满国民党镇压百姓、消极抗日的行径，凭借一杆笔发表大量揭露其罪行的犀利文章。 身背家族仇恨的小人物，在祖国生死存亡的时刻，完成了灵魂的蜕变……
