Hazy Desire

The French gentleman Madeo (played by Fernando Rey) was driving back home in Spain. In the carriage, he met a mother and daughter, a dwarf and a friend of his younger brother. Before the train started, a woman (Molina Angela) hurried over with luggage, and Madeo poured a bucket of cold water on her, which puzzled everyone. After returning to the carriage, Madeo told others about his experience: it turned out that the woman was Conchita (Carole Bouquet), a Spanish maid from Madeo's brother's house. Her beauty attracted Madeo deeply. In order to show his love, he helped Conchita and her daughter escape from financial difficulties, and then offered her to be his lover. Although Conchita gave him half-hearted approval, she never agreed to his sexual demands. This made him very angry, especially when he found out that this woman who claimed to be a virgin actually had another lover, he was even more furious... In this film, Spanish director Buñuel uses two actresses to play the same role, which is quite symbolic.
