Alexander Nevsky

The film shows the performance of the Russian Prince Alexander Nevsky in the 13th century when he led the army and civilians to defeat the predatory German Teutonic Knights of Livonia. Eisenstein drew on the techniques of folk narrative poetry to give this patriotic epic the distinct style of a magnificent opera. After the Teutonic Knights invaded Russia, they committed all kinds of evil. They sacked Pskov and hanged patriots. Nevsky led the people, with Ignat and other activists as the backbone, to defend the important town of Novgorod and eliminate the traitor Tovarchilo. Finally, the Teutonic Knights were defeated on the ice of Lake Chude.
