When My Father Was Alive

Horikawa Shuhei (Kasa Chizhong), a teacher who lives in Kanazawa ) is a man with a rough life. His wife passed away early. Over the years, Zhou Ping has worked hard to raise his son Liangping alone. During a certain outing, a student unfortunately drowned, and Zhou Ping resigned as the person in charge. After losing his job, he took his son back to his hometown of Shinshu and got a job in the village to make ends meet. Ryohei studied hard and entered a post-secondary boarding school. In order to support his son in completing his studies, Zhou Ping went to Tokyo to work alone. Over the years, Huang Tian lived up to his conscientious Ryohei (played by Sano Tuesday) and was admitted to Sendai Imperial University, and then obtained a teaching position at a school in Akita. He used to long to reunite with his father, but Zhou Ping fully supported his son's career and could not bear to hold Zhou Ping back. Migrating in the turbulent years, the father and son were separated and looked at each other far away... The script of this film was completed by Ozu Yasujiro in 1937 on the eve of the expedition.
